Portrait Tips

Our recommendation is to schedule your session early on during your stay. Please don’t try to get that perfect tan for your portrait. Tiki will give you the best tan you ever had without the risk of tan lines, unevenness, sunburn or cancer! We normally add some warmth to flesh tones in our portraits. If you still want more, you can order our exclusive Suntone Enhancement for only $10 per individual (a bargain compared to sunburn retouching). With Suntone Enhancement, we literally go in and hand massage our secret suntan potion to all your exposed body parts. What a deal!

What to Wear. We usually recommend all white. Simple, plain outfits photograph best. Our aim is to produce a timeless, beautiful portrait of you and your family. The best way to begin is with simplicity! Our most successful portraits have been produced with white clothing. A combination of white and khaki or white and blue jeans, for something a little more casual, is also popular. Soft pastels will also work well when properly coordinated. Bright colors can be used for more of a fashion statement. Just make sure they are complementary. It is best to stay away from designs, prints and patterns. Be sure to look through our web portfolio to get ideas. Work for balance, harmony and color coordination. And remember, girls always look better in skirts or dresses. We are on the beach so plan for bare feet!

Don’t be overly concerned about hair as this will be on the beach and there is almost always a sea breeze. Plan for it. If you must use some hair spray, use “light or flex hold” very sparingly as to allow your hair to flow naturally. Avoid new cuts and styles. For long hair, you may want to bring some hair clips just in case its blowing in your face.

If your wear glasses and plan to wear them for your portrait session, we highly recommend that you have your optician temporarily remove the lenses or borrow a pair of empty frames. Not only do glasses catch reflections but they can also distort the face line. We use flash to fill in the shadows which will often catch in eyeglasses. Extra retouch fees apply for removal.

For the Girls…Keep your make-up natural and fresh. Blend well into the neck, chest and shoulders. Use extra powder to avoid shine (not a bad idea for the guys, either). Avoid tan lines and sunburns. Don’t try to get that tan all in one day! Our photographic procedure will give you a moderate tan anyway. Retouching sunburn is expensive!

For the Guys…A fresh shave is a must! If you have a beard or mustache, make sure it is neatly trimmed. You might also consider using face powder to avoid shine particularly on the forehead and nose.
